How to update your ServerWave server to Minecraft 1.21.11

ServerWave gives you a few ways to upgrade depending on how your server is set up. Use the method that fits your server.

What you need

  • The 1.21.11 server.jar from a trusted source such as Mojang, PaperMC, Purpur, or your Fabric installer output.

| We recommend downloading jars from jarvault.serverwave.com.

Steps

1. Stop your server Let it fully power down before replacing files.

2. Upload the new jar SFTP: Connect via SFTP. Upload the new jar to the root folder.

| Need help connecting via SFTP? See How to Use SFTP on ServerWave.

3. Rename the jar to server.jar Your server must use this exact filename or it will not start.

4. Start your server If the jar is correct, your console should show Minecraft 1.21.11 running.

How to confirm your server updated correctly

After the server starts:

  1. Open the console.
  2. Look for a line similar to:
Starting minecraft server version 1.21.11
  1. Connect in-game and run:
/version

Or, for Paper and Purpur:

/version paper
/version purpur

If you see 1.21.11, your server is fully updated.

Common problems and fixes

* Unable to access jarfile server.jar Your file is not named server.jar. Rename it and restart.

Server crashes on startup after updating Common causes include: wrong mod versions plugins that are not compatible with 1.21.11 Fabric or Forge loaders that have not been updated yet

Check the console for errors and update your mods or plugins.

* My Paper or Purpur build does not show 1.21.11 yet Paper and Purpur sometimes publish builds shortly after Mojang releases the update. Give it a little time and check again.

* My world will not load after updating This can happen when upgrading from a very old version. Check the logs for region file errors or restore from a backup if needed.

ServerWave tips for safe updating

  • Create a backup before updating.
  • Make sure all mods match your new version.
  • If your server relies on many plugins, check their 1.21 compatibility first.
  • For modpacks, update through the modpack profile instead of replacing jars manually.
